Harbortown Marina ~ Ft Pierce, FL

When we first started sailing the Golden Isles of Georgia we suffered two frustrations. The ICW is not being dredged and maintained in this area and the channels out to the Atlantic are long to avoid shoaling that extends for 4 to 6 miles. Fort Pierce is one of the very few places where you can leave a Marina dock and get the sails up in less than an hour.

There are two good Marinas in Ft Pierce, the Municipal Marina and Harbortown. Both are very popular and getting a slip on an annual contract is not easy, but be diligent. Harbortown has a number of strong positives.

The image below gives a view of the extent of Harbortown including Whiticar who run the full service boat yard, and have Travelifts that can handle 150T. Every service can be contracted through them or independently.

It was an interesting choice to make. We live on Jekyll Island and sailed out of Brunswick Landing Marina. It took nearly 4 hours to reach the end of the channel so a day sail was out of the question. Ft Pierce is a 4 hour drive from Jekyll with a great marina when you get there. We changed our ways and decided that we would go down, sail for 2 - 3 days and come back. The real advantage is during the winter months, we leave 45 degrees and arrive at 70 degrees.
